DELIVERANCE MINISTRY

A. JESUS CAME TO SET US FREE
Certainly, Jesus came to set us free. This is explicit in Jesus' commission that he read from Isaiah 61: 1-2:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
   because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
(Luke 4:18-19)

Setting people free from demonic oppression and captivity is Jesus' core ministry. Jesus desires to release the oppressed. He came to "destroy the works of the devil" (1 John 3: 8). It was his central purpose. His ministry was characterized this way by his chief Apostle, Peter: "...how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him" (Acts 10: 38)

B. WHAT IS DELIVERANCE MINISTRY
Deliverance is the term used to remove curses and evil entities from people, animals, placed and things. Deliverance ministry is accomplished by the Holy Spirit through the church in the Name of Jesus Christ (Matt. 12: 28; 28: 7-8)

C. PURPOSE OF DELIVERANCE
1. For children's bread. (Matt. 15: 21-27)
2. For the demonstration of God's Kingdom. (Matt. 12: 28)
3. For the prophetic fulfillment. (Matt. 8: 16-17)
4. For the declaration of the LORD's Favor. (Luke 4: 18-19)
5. For the preparation of the church. Eph. (5: 26-27)
6. For the end-time revival. (Acts 2: 20/Rom. 10: 13)

D. MISSIONARY WORK OF JESUS
Jesus himself cast out demons (1 John 3: 8; Luke 4: 40-44; Acts 10: 38). Expelling demons was a normal part of Jesus' ministry as preaching. Deliverance was a confirmation and practical application of His message. "the time if fulfilled and the Kingdom of God is at hand." Now, He had to demonstrate the superiority of His Kingdom over the kingdom of Satan.

Jesus did deliverance daily. In fact, 80 percent of his ministry was casting out demons. He made it clear that His ministry is to heal the sick and set the demonized free. He did call those miracles and healing after the essential even occurred, the baptism in the Jordan River. As Jesus came out of the water the Holy Spirit descended upon him in the form of a dove.

E. IMPORTANCE OF DELIVERANCE
1. Redemption from sin through Jesus' blood. (Heb. 9: 26)
2. Freedom from the devils grip and influence. (John 3: 8b)
3. Release from the slavery to the fear of death (Heb. 2: 14-15)
4. Provision of eternal life and the promise of protection from marauding attacks of the devil. (John 10: 9-10)
